We see people around us blessed with a thick mane of hair and when asked about their secret their innocent reply is that they apply nothing special on their hair and that their hair volume has actually reduced. Feeling envious you look at your handful of hair which is lackluster and thinning and not even close to the third volume of their hair. Don’t curse your genes friends, they cannot be helped but what we can do is prevent and slow down the hair loss and improve what we already have.
Here are some hair loss useful, tested and approved tips:
1. Shampooing hair
Let me make this clear first all those advertisement on media are fooling us that shampos make hair grow. They do not. Shampoo your hair only as often as required. It cuts all the natural oil from your hair leaving it dry and frizzy. Your hair will let you know when it needs shampooing.
Most of us do not know how to properly use the conditioners available in the market. Apply it at the length and tips of hair skipping the root and scalp. Use it only when you are at the end of your shower. Leave it for two minutes. Rinse it off with water. Do not spend time in taking it all out of your hair. This misses the purpose of applying it. Your hair is supposed to feel a little slick when you rinse it off. Remeber conditioners contain chemicals which can lead to more hair damage and loss so minimize its use to twice a week only and even less.
3. Drying hair
Do not rub your hair vigorously with a towel. Be kind to it and gently pat it with a towel. Using blow dryer and heat on your hair leads to more hair damage and loss. Believe me, we do not want that happening to our hair.
4. Brushing hair
Never I repeat, never brush wet hair. Hair is at its weakest at this point and brushing wet hair will cause more breakage. Detangle your hair first with the use of fingers and brush or comb them starting from lower ends and going upwards.
5. Hair massage
Twice or thrice a week, massage your hair with the oil of your choice with small circular motions with the pulp of your fingers. Give yourself soothing, gentle massages. No attacking your scalp viciously. Use an oil like coconut oil, castor oil, almond oil. They always work for all hair types.
6. Aloe vera gel
Aloe vera gel is excellent for making your hair thick, healthy and strong. Aloe vera plant is an inexpensive must have at every home. Its gel will not only moisturise your hair perfectly but also adds shine to your hair. Apply it thrice a week and wash it with water after 30 to 45 minutes. It is best effective if you apply with oil as aloe vera and oil is a brilliant hair mask and if you have thin, short hair you should apply it for getting thicker, healthier and longer hair.
7. Be consistent
Remember if you want to achieve the hair of your dream then be consistent. Pamper your hair all the time. Apply hair mask and oils regularly. Never use harsh chemicals on your hair. Avoid heating curlers, straighteners, and hair styling chemicals.
Stress is a major factor in hair loss. The more hair thinning you see the more reason you find to stress and hence lose hair. So take a deep breath and relax. Find some time from your hectic life to destress and spend it in a way that brings you joy and happiness. Your hair and body will be thanking you.
9. Supplements and diet
There are a number of supplements available in the market for hair loss. Biotin, Vitamin C, Iron, Fish oil, Zinc are used for hair loss but only those people who are deficient in their diet needs them. The smarter approach is eating a healthy balanced diet involving lots of green vegetables and protein in the form of meat and fish, beans.
10.Seeing a dermatologist
If you are recovering from some serious illness, a surgery or going through the post partum period( gave birth)then you might suffer major hair loss. Do not panic. Consult a good dermatologist. Some medical conditions like lupus, thyroid disease, ring worm scalp infection also cause hair loss. Get it treated. Even medications like antidepressents, Beta blockers, and NSAIDS cause hair loss. Let your doctor know if you have had any change in your medication. It might be the culprit.
